Construction Site Safety: EMT vs PT

Are you paying an EMT to sit around and wait for an injury?  Having a first responder is good business on a construction site.  Workers get hurt and you need qualified persons ready to help and make next step decisions for their safety.  Common practices are to have an EMT on your construction site ready to make those decisions, but to use the full extent of an EMT’s training your worker needs to have a life-threatening event.  OSHA’s own research says most worksite injuries are not life threatening and are classified into the category of slips/fall and strains/sprains.   Beyond basic first aid an EMT will most like refer out any injury out for further consultation.

At Atlas we have a new approach to the practice of construction workplace safety.   An EMT is a fine choice as a first responder. Unfortunately, that EMT is re actively waiting for an injury to occur.   Our solution is to staff a certified early intervention first aid specialist instead of an EMT as a first responder.  There is no regulation that states a first responder for first aid purposes has to be an EMT.  Only that a few first aid qualifications be met to satisfy worksite regulations. Atlas certified early intervention first aid specialist can not only provide that first responder first aid to injured workers, but also rely on their extensive education to find the root causes of the injury and teach workers to avoid injury next time.

Our certified early intervention first aid specialist uses their educational training to be proactive in the workplace. With Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) being among the most frequent types of construction worksite injuries our certified early intervention first aid specialist is encouraging workers to share concerns of aches and pains before they become strains and sprains.  Allowing trained on-site staff to interact with workers and perform pre-injury first aid when discomfort first appears will keep your workers out of the claims pipeline and on the job.

Atlas certified early intervention first aid specialists are movement experts who optimize quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care and patient education.  Our certified early intervention first aid specialists teach workers in discomfort how to prevent or manage their condition so that injured workers will achieve long term health benefits. Our team examines each individual and develops a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, our certified early intervention first aid specialists work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before an injury occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.
