Grand Haven, Michigan (June 5, 2017) – In keeping with our continuing efforts to advance the knowledge and practice of injury prevention and worker safety, Atlas Injury Prevention Solutions (www.atlas-ips.com) will present an educational session at the Tank Truck Safety & Security Council (NTTC) Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held at Hilton Nashville Downtown, June 20-22, 2017.

Atlas injury prevention expert Drew Bossen, PT, MBA, will present the session, titled "Let’s Get Physical: Reducing Injuries and Costs Through Post-offer, Pre-employment Physical Screenings" on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 1:30 to 2:15. The session will detail the issues organizations need to consider when developing, testing, and implementing a pre-employment physical function screen process. An in-depth discussion of the legal issues related to federal employment guidelines, disparate impact, and employer interactions will also be presented. Plus, the session will include case studies that demonstrate the need for comprehensive understanding of legal risks.

“Physical function pre-employment screens are a critical part of the hiring process,” says Bossen. “The goal of this session is to educate employers on how to improve their screen-related hiring practices and reduce their risks. By presenting this information to NTTC attendees, we hope to impart a more in-depth understanding of the legal landscape, risks, and mitigation strategies associated with screens.”

Participants will be able to come away with the following:

  • An understanding of the legal differences of pre-offer and post-offer pre-employment screens and their legal limitations
  • Knowledge of the legalities involved in the development and implementation of pre-employment screens
  • The resources needed to reduce risks associated with selection, reliability, validity and disparate impact
  • Employer risk mitigation strategies to use with pre-employment screens
  • The process and policy mistakes that can increase legal risks associated with pre-employment screens

“We at Atlas are proud to be able to help NTTC member attendees improve their screen processes,” says Bossen. “Our focus is always on helping employers reduce injury, improve productivity, and increase awareness around safety and health.”
