Selecting the Right Ergonomic Assessment Tool

There are some really good resources to help you determine the correct ergonomic assessment tool to use when evaluating a job or task.

The first we recommend is the AIHA Ergonomic Tool Kit. It provides information on a variety of ergonomic assessment tools and was created to help individuals with varying experience. The Tool Kit is comprised of 20 ergonomic assessment tools for a variety of jobs and tasks found in the workplace. Please make sure to use the flow chart on page 6 to help you select the right tool for the job.

The second resource is the USF Health page by Thomas E. Bernard. Some of the assessment methods have been slightly adapted to improve usability and assessment validity. Most of the tools are available in both Excel and PDF.

Finally, Patrick Neumann from Ryerson University has compiled a Comprehensive Inventory of Tools for Ergonomic Evaluation. This is an inventory of tools for evalua environment, and includes human simulation models, product design tools, factor checklists, and others.
