GRAND HAVEN, Michigan, September 17, 2013 — Can the concept of “value streams” prove useful in advancing worker safety? According to two recent major case studies, the answer is an emphatic “yes.”

Both studies will be unveiled on October 2 at the National Safety Council Congress and Expo in Chicago. Atlas Director of Ergonomic Services, Tony Silva, will discuss both in detail in “Value Stream Approach to Office and Industrial Ergonomics.”

The 90-minute session, which begins at 9:15 am on Wednesday, will review two case studies. One in one of the nation's largest manufacturers and the other in a financial institution that employs 180,000 workers in 5,500 locations. In each setting, a value stream approach was taken to optimize the ergonomics and injury management processes, improving worker safety and proving its value to corporate leaders.

Silva, a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) of more than 15 years, is known for integrating ergonomics into dominant business practices such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing, which embrace “value stream” concepts.

“Today, to protect worker safety, we must prove its bottom-line value within globally accepted business practices,” Silva said. “These two case studies prove that effective ergonomics programs can be mapped and optimized as a value stream. Perhaps more surprisingly, they prove value stream concepts can actually make our ergonomic efforts more effective.”

The presentation is especially recommended for corporate safety experts charged with developing ergonomic strategies with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing business environments.
