Grand Haven, Michigan (April 26, 2021) – Continuing our commitment to help educate employers on ways to avoid work-related injuries, Atlas Injury Prevention Solutions is pleased to announce our presentation with American Packaging Corporation (APC) on the benefits an early intervention injury reduction program and how one functions in the workplace. This virtual presentation will be held through the National Ergonomics Conference Tuesday, May 4, 2021, starting at 2:00PM EST.
Curt DeWeese, Physical Therapist and Director at Atlas, a 30-year industry veteran in preventing, managing, and treating work-related musculoskeletal injuries, will present - Telephonic Nurse Triage and Early Intervention: Strategies to Help the Safety Manager Control Recordable MSDs. Curt will be joined by Corporate EHS Director, Jim Withers of American Packaging Corporation, a leader in the packaging industry for more than a century. Jim also has over two decades of safety management and direction in Lean Manufacturing environments with a Ph.D. in Industrial Technology.
All work-related injuries need to be addressed, but not all work-related musculoskeletal discomfort requires formal medical care or needs to convert to an OSHA-recordable claim. Timely assessment with guidance, reassurance, and OSHA-accepted first aid care/early intervention (EI), often resolve concerns without referral for additional medical care.
This presentation will highlight a successful scaled onsite EI service program used by American Packaging Corporation, and how closely working with site safety managers contained a progression of concerns. The presenters will discuss how an evolution adding telephonic nurse triage and at-clinic EI further improved the program, leading this multisite flexible packaging converter to control MSD claims in a cost-effective way.
“Since 2013 we have been working with APC to reduce repetitive motion and musculoskeletal concerns,” says Curt DeWeese. “Addressing issues early through EI has allowed us to resolve nearly all presented cases without the need for further medical care. Onsite coverage at the APC locations has been tailored to a few hours per month. Expanding the care to include telephonic nurse triage and at-clinic EI has broadened coverage to be sure needs are met in a cost-effective manner. Establishing trust and cooperation with the employees, site safety managers, and the Corporate EHS Director has nurtured growth and success of the program.”
