Grand Haven, MIMarch 15, 2010—A simple split keyboard design drastically reduced user discomfort at a software company. Hospital workers overwhelmingly want a safe patient handling program, yet fewer than half understand or comply with policy.

These two eye-opening studies, among the latest by Atlas Ergonomics, will be presented along with their practical implications at the upcoming Applied Ergonomics Conference, March 23 through 25 in San Antonio. The presentations continue Atlas’ goal to provide valuable, applicable information from its respected field work in workplace ergonomics.

On Tuesday, March 23 from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m., David Brodie, Atlas Director of Ergonomic Services, will present "Impact of Split Keyboard Design on Office Design." The presentation will center on a March 10 white paper detailing the startling impact of a split keyboard on employee posture, comfort, and performance. The presentation will highlight results of an Atlas field research project in combination with peer-reviewed literature to illustrate key factors that must be considered when using split keyboards.

On March 25 from 8:45-9:30 a.m., Brodie will be presenting a second topic entitled "Addressing Knowledge and Culture to Achieve Success in Healthcare". This presentation will provide the results of a case study at a large hospital. As part of a risk assessment project, the importance of addressing employee understanding within the workforce became glaringly apparent. Key metrics and approaches to achieve success will be discussed within the presentation.

Brodie is a Board-Certified Professional Ergonomist with 14 years of experience providing ergonomics consulting and training to corporations across North America.
