GRAND HAVEN, Mich. and DEDHAM, Mass., — Atlas Ergonomics and AliMed, inc. have joined forces to reduce the high risk of on-the-job injury among health care workers who handle patients. The alliance combines Atlas's proven risk assessment and ergonomic technology with AliMed’s vast inventory of safe patient handling equipment and tools.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, health care workers who handle patients are at especially high risk of on-the-job injuryhigher even than material handlers and truck drivers. These injuries are believed to be significant factors in the rising costs of health care.
Central to this partnership is AtlasGuide™, a web-based data management tool that helps health care organizations identify and reduce safe patient handling risk. AtlasGuide™ provides the most complete assessment available to the industry, gathering data on incident rates and costs, patient dependency level, employee discomfort, competency, and attitude, as well as equipment use behavior and obstacles to use.
Drew Bossen, Executive Vice President of Atlas, said "Research has shown that proper tools are essential to reduce the injury risks of patient handling. However, to realize the highest return on these tools, an organization must understand employees' discomfort, competency, attitudes and behavior. Atlas gathers data and defines risk to help employers reach this understanding."
"When considering risk assessment options, we concluded that offering our clients an independent review of their options is crucial," says Jon Bretz, AliMed Senior Vice President. "Many product providers conduct risk assessments only as they write purchase orders. Now Atlas will define risks for employers and help them choose the appropriate types of products apart from the sales process. Our customers will be free to purchase our products or another supplier's. What is important is that they will be assured of an unbiased, expert assessment of their needs."
Bossen concluded, "By combining Atlas' proven risk assessment approach with Alimed's exceptional product offering, we can help employers address patient-handling injuries more holistically and effectively than ever before." AliMed will begin offering Atlas risk assessment services October 1, 2001. For more information, please contact Alan Bingham, Senior Product Manager, 800 225 2610 ext 155
