Grand Haven, MIMarch 16, 2011—Soon 70 percent of the U.S. population will be overweight or obese, experts say. The effect on American industry must be met quickly and effectively, says Atlas Ergonomics founder Drew Bossen.

Bossen will address the pressing topic at the 2011 Applied Ergonomics Conference in Orlando in a session titled Impact of Obesity Across Multiple Work Environments on Thursday March 24 at 8:00 a.m.

The presentation, based on Atlas extensive research and applied findings in worker health and safety, will reveal the relationships between obesity, workplace injuries, and workers compensation costs. Bossen will also present an in-depth Atlas case study that demonstrates reasons and strategies for effective employer intervention.

Our research demonstrates that obesitys impact is not limited to a specific segment of the workforce, Bossen noted. Unfortunately, the risks and costs of this epidemic appear to apply uniformly to all industries we serve.

The AEC presentation continues Atlas goal to provide valuable, applicable information from its respected field work in workplace ergonomics, Bossen said. Bossen, a physical therapist with more than 25 years of experience in innovative injury prevention and treatment protocols, helped found Atlas in 2002. The company now includes the nations largest network of ergonomics and healthcare professionals, helping prevent and treat injuries among office, health care, transportation/transit, and industrial workers nationwide.
