Grand Haven, Michigan (January 22, 2018) – Introducing ergonomics products alone has little bearing on an employee’s level of discomfort. Those findings are part of an updated study released by Atlas Injury Prevention Solutions, the industry-leading injury prevention and management service and technology provider.
The Atlas white paper, Office Ergonomics Trends Part II Update: Relationship between Products and Discomfort, found that ergonomic products alone did not reduce significantly the level of discomfort employees experienced. However, when employees were trained on using the products correctly, there was a significantly higher reduction in discomfort. Ergonomic products alone delivered an average reduction in discomfort levels of 11%, whereas the products coupled with training delivered an average of 51% reduction in discomfort.
Following the same study methodology used in a 2008 study, Atlas’ updated results represent an increased sample size—from 2,441 employees to 26,469 employees.
“This study reveals what we’ve believed for years—proper training and education are essential components of an ergonomics program,” says Jim Landsman, president of Atlas. “Simply providing ergonomic products isn’t enough.”
Landsman went on to say, “When we study the entire ergonomics experience, we as an industry are able to fully address workplace discomfort and reduce the risk of injury. By knowing that education and training are key components of a good ergonomics experience, we can help employees stay comfortable, safe, and productive.”
